DBPR states that registrants initially registered less than 24 months before the end of their first renewal cycle do not need CE for that first renewal. Confirm your original registration date before buying a full 20-hour renewal package.

At Least 16 Hours Must Be Structured Study
The Board's incorporated Interior Design CE Handbook adds a delivery-format rule that is easy to miss in short renewal summaries.
All 20 hours may be HSW. The structured/self-directed limit is a separate check from the 14 HSW + 2 Advanced + 4 optional/HSW subject-category breakdown.
Course-selection flexibility
The Final 4 Hours Do Not Have to Be “Optional”
The last 4 hours may be satisfied with optional credit or additional HSW. If you prefer to keep all 20 hours focused on HSW-oriented topics, the current framework allows that flexibility as long as the mandatory Advanced category is also satisfied.
Mandatory category
The 2 Advanced Building Code Hours Need Exact Verification
Florida law requires specialized or Advanced Florida Building Code education related to the licensee's respective area of practice. A course is not automatically the mandatory Advanced category simply because it discusses a building code topic.

Multi-state registrants
Another State's CE May Be Usable — But Florida's Advanced Requirement Still Applies
Florida's Interior Designer CE rule allows proof of compliance with another state's CE requirements when that state's requirements equal or exceed Florida's 20-hour standard. Out-of-state CE does not waive Florida's 2-hour approved Advanced Building Code requirement.
This is a limited compliance path, not a blanket reciprocity exemption. Verify the current Florida rule and required documentation before relying on another state's CE.
Recordkeeping matters
Your DBPR Account May Not Show Every Valid CE Hour
Architecture and Interior Design providers are exempt from mandatory attendance-roster reporting. Providers with assigned DBPR provider/course numbers may report voluntarily, while automatically accepted courses without a department course number may not appear in your online account.
Keep your completion certificates. Your online account can be useful without being a complete transcript.
Inactive
Ongoing CE is not required while inactive
DBPR states that inactive registrants do not maintain ongoing CE while inactive.
Reactivation
Reactivation is a different transaction
Evidence of applicable CE is required to return to active status. Verify the current reactivation path before selecting courses.
Carryover
Do not bank excess hours
DBPR says required CE must be earned during the applicable biennium; do not rely on carryover.
Hardship situations: DBPR says it does not generally grant CE extensions. Limited hardship requests involving illness, death in the immediate family, or acts of God may be considered through the rule-waiver/variance process.

“If it is missing online, it did not count.”
Not necessarily. Reporting is not mandatory for this profession.
“I can discard the certificate after reporting.”

BuilderCE identifies a course as satisfying regulated continuing-education credit only after the exact approval or accreditation record, approved hours, eligible profession or license type, delivery method, and applicable code edition have been established and verified.

Which recognized providers can count toward Florida Interior Designer CE?
DBPR's FAQ identifies qualifying education from AIA CES, NCARB, IDCEC Core Members, CILB and Florida building-official/inspector board-approved courses as automatically accepted pathways. Verify the exact category when using a course for the mandatory Advanced requirement.
Does every valid CE course appear in my DBPR account?
No. Provider reporting is not mandatory for Architecture and Interior Design, and some automatically accepted courses may not appear.
Can I use another state's CE to satisfy Florida?

The incorporated Interior Design CE Handbook allows up to 4 hours of related/HSW credit for attending a Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design meeting once per biennium, except when attendance is for disciplinary action against the registration.
