Florida PE Renewal Requirements for 2027
Most Florida PEs need 18 continuing-education hours every two years and must complete the applicable renewal steps by February 28, 2027. The exact path depends on whether you are a first-cycle licensee and whether your practice triggers Advanced Building Code training.

Current-cycle alert — August 26, 2026: FBPE states that PEs must report continuing education taken since March 1, 2025 for the upcoming renewal period. Qualifying first-time Florida licensees issued on or after March 1, 2025 have a reduced first-renewal CE requirement.
The standard Florida PE renewal framework
Under the standard active-license path, Florida requires 18 CE hours every two years: one hour of Florida Laws & Rules from a Board-approved provider, one hour of professional ethics, four hours related to the engineer's area or areas of practice, and 12 additional hours on topics pertinent to engineering.

New Florida PE? Your 2027 first renewal may require only two CE hours
FBPE says that if your first Florida PE license was issued on or after March 1, 2025 and your license shows a 2027 expiration date, you need a Board-approved Laws & Rules course, an ethics course, and the renewal fee. You do not need the other 16 CE hours for this first cycle.

Advanced Building Code is a separate practice-triggered obligation
The reduced first-renewal CE rule does not automatically exempt a PE from Advanced Building Code. If you actively participate in covered design involving buildings, structures, facilities, or systems within Florida Building Code scope, the applicable current-edition ABC course must be completed before that covered design work.

Florida Laws & Rules is reported differently from most other CE
FBPE states that Board-approved Laws & Rules providers must report completions through DBPR's provider reporting portal. PEs should still retain their own certificate. Other CE providers generally provide certificates rather than reporting all technical CE directly to FBPE.

Keep your CE records for at least four years
FBPE requires licensees to retain receipts, certificates, vouchers, or other records necessary to demonstrate CE compliance for four years from completion. The Board may audit or investigate compliance.
