CE, CEH, PDH, and contact hour are often used loosely in engineering education—but they are not useful unless you know how Florida counts the activity. This guide translates the terminology into the categories that actually matter for renewal.

Why do engineering sites use different terms?
National engineering education commonly uses Professional Development Hour (PDH), while state boards may use CE, continuing-education hour, contact hour, credit hour, or other defined units. Florida's rules include a conversion rule specifically because different education units can need to be translated into continuing-education hours.

Florida renewal is about qualifying hours, not marketing labels
A provider can call a course “1 PDH,” “1 CEH,” or “1 hour.” What matters is whether the activity meets Florida's qualifying criteria, whether the provider/course requirements are satisfied where required, and how the credit fits into Laws & Rules, Ethics, Area of Practice, or the remaining pertinent-engineering hours.

How should you record the credit?
Use the hour value supported by the course documentation and Florida conversion rules, then upload the completion record into NCEES CPC Tracking. Keep enough documentation to explain both the amount of credit and the category selected.
