Florida PE License Renewal Checklist

Before you renew, make sure you're actually ready. Florida PE renewal involves more than completing CE and paying a fee. You need to reconcile the records that matter, complete the full renewal workflow, and then confirm that the license actually renewed.

The safest definition of “done” isn't “I paid” or “I completed my CE.” It's “my Florida license record shows the new expiration date.”

Step 1 — Determine which CE requirement applies to you

Most Florida PEs must complete the standard 18-hour CE requirement for the March 1, 2025–February 28, 2027 biennium. But there is an important first-renewal exception.

First licensed in Florida on or after March 1, 2025?
If this is your qualifying first renewal and the license expires in 2027, FBPE says the first renewal requires 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules, 1 hour professional ethics, and the applicable renewal fee. An applicable Advanced Building Code requirement remains separate.

Step 2 — Check your license and account now

Do not wait until renewal day to discover an account problem. Log into MyFloridaLicense and verify your PE license appears correctly, your email and mailing address are current, your telephone number is current, your license information is correct, and you can actually access the account.

Fix this early. A forgotten password may be inconvenient. An identity, license-linking, or account-access problem discovered on February 28 can be much harder to resolve.

Step 3 — Make sure FBPE can reach you

Verify the licensing email address, mailing address, and telephone number associated with your record. Check spam/junk filtering and make sure you have not unintentionally blocked FBPE communications.

Step 4 — Complete the CE that actually applies to you

If you cannot confidently answer all four questions, resolve the underlying requirement before moving on.

Step 5 — Ask the separate Advanced Building Code question

Do not only ask whether you have enough CE hours. Also ask whether Advanced Building Code applies to the engineering work you perform. ABC is practice-triggered and can apply independently of the ordinary CE calculation.

Step 7 — Verify Florida Laws & Rules before you renew

Your Board-approved Florida Laws & Rules provider is responsible for reporting the applicable completion to DBPR.

Stop and contact the provider. Do not assume entering the course in NCEES fixes a provider-reporting problem.

Step 8 — Run the “Would I attest to this today?” test

Before opening the renewal application, ask whether you have actually completed the CE requirement that applies, satisfied Florida Laws & Rules, and identified any professional discipline or other issue the current renewal application requires you to disclose.

When does Florida PE renewal open for 2027?

FBPE has announced that online renewal opens Monday, November 2, 2026.

When is the Florida PE renewal deadline?

The current biennium ends February 28, 2027.

Do all Florida PEs need 18 CE hours?

No. Most do, but qualifying first-time Florida licensees licensed on or after March 1, 2025 have a reduced first-renewal requirement.

Do my NCEES courses appear in MyFloridaLicense?

Ordinary CE is reported through NCEES CPC Tracking and should not be expected to mirror the state licensing record.

Is paying the renewal fee enough?

No. Renewal requires the complete workflow, not merely payment.

How do I know renewal actually succeeded?

Verify the Florida license record. For an ordinary successful 2027 renewal, the expiration should advance to February 28, 2029.

What if my license still says February 28, 2025?

Your license is already delinquent. Follow the delinquent-license recovery process rather than this ordinary-renewal checklist.

Should I wait until November 2 to prepare?
