What to do if your Florida PE license did not renew. If your Florida PE license still shows an expiration date of February 28, 2025, you are not simply preparing for the next renewal. Your license is already delinquent.
If your Florida PE license is not active, do not continue practicing engineering in Florida while you work on restoring it.

Delinquent does not mean “late but still active”
A Florida PE license that is not renewed before expiration becomes delinquent. If it remains delinquent through the following licensure cycle, it becomes void without further Board action.

If your license is delinquent, stop Florida engineering practice
Delinquent status is not merely an administrative inconvenience. If the license is not active, you should not continue performing Florida engineering work that requires active PE licensure. That includes signing or sealing engineering documents.

Florida law makes it unlawful to seal or digitally sign an engineering document after the license has expired unless the license has been reinstated or reissued.

Possessing your physical seal is not the same as having authority to use it. Ordinary expiration removes the authority to use the seal. The critical rule is: do not use it.
Be careful how you represent your Florida PE status
While your license is delinquent, inactive, or void, do not represent yourself to clients, agencies, employers, or the public as holding active Florida PE authority. This is more precise than saying a person can never use the word “engineer” in any context. The issue is whether you are representing professional licensure or authority that you do not currently hold.
Your license says 2025. What should you do now?
1 — STOP
Stop Florida engineering practice that requires an active Florida PE license. Do not sign or seal.
2 — VERIFY
Check the actual Florida license record.
3 — IDENTIFY
Determine whether the license is delinquent or already void.
4 — CHOOSE
If delinquent, active or inactive. If void, formal reinstatement.

Returning a 2025-expired delinquent license to active status
For the current situation involving a formerly active Florida PE license that expired in 2025 and is being restored to active status during the 2025–2027 cycle, FBPE currently instructs the engineer to complete both renewal cycles.

This statement is intentionally narrow. It does not mean every inactive, delinquent, or void Florida PE automatically owes 36 hours. Different status-change pathways have different requirements.

Do not assume February 28 is a same-night online fix
FBPE's current Change of Status process requires the applicable application and payment to be submitted to the Board, and current instructions say these applications are not accepted electronically.
If your license expired in 2025, do not assume that beginning the process online on February 28, 2027 will prevent the license from becoming void. Start the recovery process well before the deadline.
What if you thought you renewed?

Do not use a payment receipt, CE certificate, NCEES record, or memory of completing the portal as proof of active licensure. The current state license record is the controlling practical check.
What if my license is already void?
A void license is no longer valid. But current Florida law and current FBPE rules provide a route back.
Current rule: Reinstate the previous license
Current Rule 61G15-22.0002 establishes the reinstatement process for void Florida PE licenses. Older information online may still say a void PE must start over through endorsement. That is outdated.

How does void-license reinstatement work?
FBPE currently requires common reinstatement elements including the Change of Status Application, applicable fee, satisfaction of prior discipline affecting the void license, and passage of the Board's Laws & Rules Study Guide. Then one of two competency pathways applies.

Don't buy the wrong 36 hours
The CE-based reinstatement route does not simply mean “take any 36 hours online.” FBPE allows the Florida Laws & Rules hour to be completed online. The remaining 35 hours are subject to special delivery restrictions.

Will I get my old Florida PE number back?
Current Florida procedure is described as reinstatement of the previous void license, rather than ordinary examination or endorsement licensure. That strongly indicates restoration of the prior licensing record rather than issuance through a brand-new licensure pathway.
Current public FBPE materials do not expressly promise that your exact prior PE number will always be restored. If preservation of a particular PE number matters to you, confirm the record outcome with FBPE before filing.
What if you practiced while delinquent or void?
Restoring the license fixes your current licensure status. It does not retroactively authorize engineering work performed while you lacked active Florida licensure.
If you practiced, signed, sealed, or represented active Florida PE authority while your license was delinquent or void, the issue may extend beyond ordinary status recovery.

My Florida PE license still says February 28, 2025. Can I practice?
No. If the license is delinquent rather than active, you should not practice engineering in Florida under that license until it is restored.
Can I still use my PE seal?
Not on engineering documents. Florida law prohibits sealing or digitally signing engineering documents after license expiration unless the license has been reinstated or reissued.
Do I have to surrender my physical seal because the license expired?
Ordinary expiration removes your authority to use the seal. The statutory surrender requirement specifically applies to suspension and revocation.
When could my 2025-expired license become void?
The current critical deadline for unresolved 2025-expired delinquent licenses is February 28, 2027.
How much CE do I need to restore my delinquent license to active status?
For the current 2025-expired delinquent/active restoration scenario, FBPE currently instructs engineers to satisfy the previous 18-hour cycle plus the current 18-hour cycle.
Can I put my delinquent license into inactive status instead?
FBPE provides a delinquent-to-inactive status-change option.

No. Current rules provide an alternative pathway for applicants who can document qualifying PE licensure and active engineering practice in another U.S. jurisdiction.
Can all 36 hours be ordinary self-paced online CE?
No. Special delivery restrictions apply to 35 of the hours in the CE-based reinstatement pathway.
Can I fix a delinquent license entirely online?
Do not assume so. Current FBPE Change of Status instructions involve paper application and payment submission to the Board.
What if I practiced while delinquent?
That may create a separate compliance or disciplinary issue. Restoring the license does not retroactively authorize the prior practice.

“Expired” is common search language, but the recovery path depends on the status shown by DBPR/FBPE and when the license became delinquent. Do not practice on a status that does not authorize active practice.
If the license is already delinquent from the prior renewal cycle, FBPE requires the prior cycle's 18 CE hours plus the current cycle's 18 hours, with the full category split in each set. The current fee schedule lists a $123.75 delinquent-renewal charge, but FBPE renewal guidance also requires payment of any outstanding fees from the previous renewal period. Treat $123.75 as the current delinquent-renewal charge, not necessarily the all-in amount due. Under section 455.271, an unresolved delinquent license becomes void at the end of the licensure cycle in which it remains delinquent.

Fee-source note: FBPE's dedicated current Licensure Fees page lists $123.75 as the delinquent-renewal charge ($98.75 renewal plus the $25 delinquency fee). FBPE's renewal guidance separately states that a delinquent licensee must also pay any outstanding fees from the previous renewal period. A historical FBPE example totaled $222.50 when both the prior-cycle and current-cycle renewal fees plus the delinquency fee were due, but that historical total is not a guaranteed 2027 amount. Verify the exact balance with DBPR/FBPE when renewing. The closed-renewal page also still displays older $49/$74/$49 figures from the prior renewal window.
